Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3?
Was just wondering what everyone thinks of Battlefields chances of taking on what is clearly the behemoth of the industry this year. Anyone played the Battlefield 3 beta? What did you think?
-
Haven't played the beta unfortunately, couldn't get my PC upgraded in time. Have to wait till next month to build my new rig.
Personally I think Battlefield and Call Of Duty are the same, they copy each other, they base the games storys basically upon each other. It's just a straight narrow story for them both, you have to do what the story wants you to do, it's all sequenced with no freedom to do what you want to do.
But hey I guess that's what Multiplayer is all about. Which I'm sure will be absolutely awsome. I think Battlefield 3 will take best multiplayer this year without a doubt.

Yeah both campaigns are nothing special so it's all about the MP to me for these games. Definitely BF3. COD has been coasting on the success of COD4 for years now. They never do anything innovative or new. I played the BF3 beta on 360 and it was great. Buggy as hell but it was only a beta so I'm confident the final game will be all good.

I've always enjoyed the Call Of Duty campaigns and I dont really know why, I know its completely ridiculous, short and everything is controlled for you but it's just mindless fun. I think battlefield 3 has it this year though, Call of Duty really need to find something innovative they can do

I'll actually play both and will probably enjoy both about the same.
I played Battlefield's beta, which I don't really like to think of as beta, as it only had one map and one mode. I think there were two purposes to the "beta": 1) to serve as a demo 2) to test out their servers. Not complaining about a free taste, just saying. It was fun but the only thing that really set it apart for me were the graphics. Team coordination seemed like a much larger factor for success than it would be in a COD game. It was nice, when I had good teammates. Crap when I was stuck with a bunch of COD/Halo gamers. I like to run and gun too but you have to be smart about it.
As for MW3's multiplayer, it looks like they are changing it up quite a bit. Other than the maps and some slight tweaks to the perks, the COD4 and MW2 games were basically the same. In the next game, it looks like they have completely revised the perk system and killstreaks. On top of that, there appears to be a few new game modes that actually look pretty cool. Not that it will matter to 50% of their gamers who only play team deathmatch. I can't critique it like I did with Battlefield because I have no first hand experience, so if you feel like I favor MW3, it's only because I haven't played it yet.
And I like the campaigns. I actually don't understand the hatred. And if the amount of time it takes is a problem, set the difficulty to the hardest and try to get all the achievements and trophies.

It's not that the campaigns are bad really. Just nothing special. I always play them and enjoy them but I never find myself returning to them except for achievements. And I'm the type that generally enjoys single player games over multiplayer.

I hated the BF3 "beta" demo. Of course, I hate every demo that only lets you try out the online multiplayer, which is the least important aspect of a game for me. Still, I think BF3 will be leaps and bounds better because it looks like it has an actual story of some sort. That's all I care about; I have BF2142 if I want to play online. As for MW3...I haven't enjoyed a Call of Duty game since CoD2. Everything since then has been crap to me. I really don't understand how people can spend hundreds of hours playing these games online. Where is the fun in killing people over and over on the same selection of maps?

They are different games. I have yet to play BF3 but am amazed at the graphics and gameplay. Makes me wish I would've purchased BF3 instead of MW3. The reason i chose MW instead was because all my friends play it and it only made sense since I rarely play alone. I personally don't find MW3 to be all that fun. It's alright but it just seems like the other CODs but with different guns. Nothing has wow'd me so far and I don't like any of the maps either. I might have to check out BF3 soon.

Well, I have had MW3 for a few weeks now. I was planning on buying BF3 and/or MW3 sometime after New Year's but I was given MW3 as a thank you present. The multiplayer is a lot more balanced than in the other COD games. I've rarely seen one person just destroying everyone else, which was quite common in the previous games. The campaign is good, not great. Spec Ops is a nice change of pace. I give the game overall a 7 out of 10.
I'm interested in seeing how Battlefield really stacks up but I am going to stick with my original plan and wait 'til after New Year's to get it.

I prefer BF3 played it a lot now whenever Gears pisses me off. Its really fun and the large scale battles are things that CoD just cant compare to. I haven't played MW3 and don't plan to for a long time. But BF3 is really amazing especially sniping as I love to snipe in almost every game I play and it just feels right compared to older CoD games.
