Knights of the Old Republic
Ok, I can't believe this is retro gaming since it came out on the original Xbox and Pc in 2003, but Knight of the Old republic was amazing. I just recently started playing the Old Republic beta and found myself playing a bit of KoTOR on my original xbox (yes, I know I can play on my 360m but I like giving the Xbox a work out every now and again).
Man, this game is monumental! Its been a few years since I played it, but the story was so deep and the characters were all so likeable; this game was a complete package.
So who else has played it and which were your favorite moments, characters etc?
My favorite moment (spoiler if you havent played, but then again, this game is 7 years old and a master piece: why havent you played it!?)
Is finding out that you're Revan! it was a great twist and it really made me reconsider all the good deeds I did while acting as a light Jedi. It was also interesting to see that this was probably the only median in which that type of twist could be pulled off. In film or in a book; it wouldnt have worked as well, but in a game it worked perfectly.

I've always been curious about these games, but I've never tried them out. They just didn't look like my cup of tea. I also never had the original Xbox, so I think I've played less than five games that came out for it. Considering how much the Xbox versions go for, I might have to check these out on the PC.

One of my favorite RPGs of all time. Bioware + Star Wars = nerdgasm. I played it on PC though.
Yeah that definitely was one of the craziest plot twists in video game history. Definitely didn't see that coming. It causes some plot holes though. I can't remember the details exactly because it's been so long since I played it last but I remember getting my mind blown then playing it over again already knowing the ending and noticed alot of inconsistencies. Gotta play it again to get any more specific sorry lol.
I wanna play Old Republic so bad but I highly doubt my PC will be able to run it.

agreed, it was amazing. Made me be proud to be a Star Wars fan again after those AWFUL prequels came out haha
and murg, play it on PC, it is well worth it. Its a very involving game.

I'll definitely get around to it sometime. I'm not a huge SW fan anymore, but I know the universe pretty well, so it would be cool to try out the games. I'm especially interested in the second one because Obsidian has some of the best developers and writers from Black Isle Studios...these are the guys who made me fall in love with exploration and dialog in the first two Fallout games.

I enjoyed both games a lot. The second one seemed to disappoint people but I really enjoyed it. I remember playing II and appreciating all the references to Revan and Malak and being proud to actually know what they were talking about. KOTOR was really the first time I played a turn-based RPG for more than a couple of hours.
When I played Mass Effect, there were a lot of side missions that reminded me of the KOTOR games. There was some nice nostalgia mixed in with a good, fresh storyline.

See that's what I love about KOTOR is that it's a turn-based RPG but not really. There's no literal turns that you rotate between you and your opponent but the turns take place behind the scenes allowing for people who traditionally hate turn based RPGs (ie. me) to get into it as if it were a real time RPG. Obviously this is just clarification for Murga, who has never played them in case he thinks its like Pokemon or Final Fantasy style combat.
I never actually got a chance to play KOTOR 2. I always wanted to because I loved the first one so much but just never got around to it. I'm not sure how much better the graphics are so Im not sure if I can run it on my PC and never actually tried. I think it's about time to upgrade my PC lol.

I actually like quite a few turn-based games; I just hate the constant random encounters that are often found in JRPG's. And I personally think it's a joke to refer to them as RPG's when there's no actual roleplaying involved, but that's a whole other discussion. Heh. Anyway, I went ahead and looked up some battle videos of KOTOR. I had seen a friend play the console version years ago, but I barely remember it, so I thought it was straight-up action fighting. The way you describe it, it sounds like Fallout to me, which is turn-based but doesn't involve clicking on menus (more like move around, choose your weapon, attack the enemy, end your sequence...kinda like D&D) but it actually looks like it plays a lot like Dragon Age: Origins. I really enjoyed the combat system in that because there was plenty of action, but you also had a chance to plan your movements and even freeze mid-battle if necessary.

Yeah from the little of what I played of Dragon Age, it's really similar to that. You just click to attack and it'll continue to do it as often as the turn system allows until you give another order. You can also queue up certain attacks to automatically do and also pause the game to either make a series of actions for your character or jump around to your squad mates and give them orders.
