assassin's creed 2
Ok, I know I'm years late on this one, but my brother and I agreed to let the other borrow a game and he let me borrow Assassin's Creed 2 (I let him borrow Batman Arkham Asylum)
To start, I thought I was getting the short end of the stick (since Batman rocks and AC1 was pretty repetative)
But I'm genuinly enjoying AC2. I this era much more than the crusades and they added better interactions with the public (like bribing hookers and the like).
I'm less than half way there, but wanted to know what everyone else enjoyed about it (spoiler fee please!)
Also, who do you like better? Altair or Ezio?
-
I like Ezio better just because they fleshed out more character out of him. But yeah AC2 was a huge step up from AC1 and Brotherhood is even better. It's been too long since i played AC2 actually so I can't remember what they added in that and wasn't in Brotherhood so i don't want to get into specifics. I really liked the different locales though. That was the same year i went to Venice so seeing the in game version of the city and it's sights was pretty cool. There was an old post on here actually where i posted photos of the real buildings that were recreated in the game.

I remember that post! And shame on you, Ray! I think the AC games are so much better than Batman. Granted, I haven't played the whole thing so my opinion doesn't count for much, but I just hated the combat system. It was somewhere in between Assassin's Creed and Jumper. Bleh. AC doesn't have a great combat system either, but it's much better in ACB, especially once you get to train other assassins. That was one of the best new features, I think.
Ezio was certainly fleshed out far better than Altair, but he rubs me the wrong way. I just find him annoying and he has a bad accent. I have no problems with Altair. He's not very interesting, but he's inoffensive. I'm really looking forward to seeing him again in ACR. But more than anything, I'm looking forward to a proper AC3 with a new main character. I would also like it if they could wrap up the story sometime soon because I don't want to see this get drawn out like Prince of Persia. Only Nintendo characters can have that many games and still remain interesting/likable.

I liked Altair better but AC2 and ACB are much better games overall. Altair started out as a jerk but changed as the game went on. I think it was nice to play as a character who wasn't so static throughout a game. But the combat and storyline was better with Ezio. Brotherhood improved the fighting a great deal, making it so that Ezio could be the attacker instead of being defensive the whole time. And I agree with Murga, Ezio's accent is just bad. It took me a while to get used to it.

Yeah definitely looking forward to the inevitable AC3. Might not even get ACR for fear of getting burnt out on the series. We need a new setting and main character badly IMO.
-
I too worry about getting burnt out on AC, but I don't want to skip Revelations because there's no telling what kind of storyline it will have. I mean, just imagine not playing Brotherhood. Sure, the story could've continued without a lot of what happened, but the events in ACB helped spice things up.

I am looking forward to ACR because of the change in setting. Rome was awesome (it's one of the few places I really want to travel to) but the architecture was too similar to the cities in AC2. It will be nice to get out of Italy.

I went to Rome the same year we went to Venice . Here was that thread I was talking about too with my pictures.

Yeah, definitely. Constantinople had a lot of similar architecture, but it was different enough to keep it from feeling like more of the same. It will definitely be a nice change of scenery, despite how beautiful Italy was. Still, I'm really looking forward to visiting a different time period altogether. I was shown a list of possible settings a few months back and I must say, a few them intrigued me quite a bit.

Hah hey man, Batman's fighting style was very linear, but using his stealth and takedowns and picking off goons feels more refined then most of the assassinations in AC2 so far.
So far I'm in Venice and wow, the developers did a great job with re-creating real life buildings for the game.
as far as characters go, Ezio has better ties to the gamer since we see what happens to him as opposed to Altair, who is just a stone cold killer. There isn't much to him i nthe first game, but the codex pages fleshed out a little more.
And yes, the terrible italian accents were a big hill to get over haha

Just read that thread and looked at the pics and that is sweet. I am truly jealous. I love history so much but my knowledge of ancient Rome isn't that great. However, I was knowledgeable enough during the game to appreciate the detail and historicity of it all.

I played Mario Is Missing several times as a kid, so I was ready for anything that AC2 could throw at me.
