Ha ha, nice and simple. I like it.

The large ones usually weren't over a foot tall or so. BUT....over in the corner of the building would be the prize for that year's ticket drawing; and it would be something big. I remember one year they had this thing that said it shot a bunch of roman candle-like balls up in the air....something like 4,000 total or so. It was as big around as a small car tire and I remember thinking it just looked like they took a whole bunch of roman candles and glued them all together with one fuse to set the whole shebang off. The sign said the retail value of it was like $100 or so, and I thought "Okay.....why would anyone ever pay THAT much money for a firecracker?!" I mean, what do you get for your money?....."BANG BANG POOF ZIP WHEEEEEEEEEEE!.....*pop*....Okay, there went $100 up in smoke....what's next?"
I have to admit that it does sound kinda cool. Heh. $100 actually isn't all that bad (by comparison). I was sent a fireworks catalog in the mail and a lot of these things cost up to $400 each. It's insane how much money people throw away on these! I just don't understand how any fireworks could possibly be worth that much money. That's almost how much I paid for my car.

I always thought those tanks were kinda neat, by the way. Heh. When you can actually get them to work, they're great for kids. I think I might prefer the spinning turtles, though.

$400 for fireworks?!! Man....and I thought $100 was bad! I can think of a lot better uses for $400 than something that goes pop and that's it.

As for the tanks, yeah, they were okay, IF they worked. That's the problem though, mine never worked. We always got those family packs when we'd get fireworks (cheaper that way) and they'd always throw 3 or 4 or those tanks in there. No kidding though; I think of all the years we got those things, I *might* have gotten 2 to ever work correctly. The rest of 'em either didn't fire anything, fizzled one little pathetic shot and quit, or in the case of one of them, it just shot a flame out the bottom of the tank and managed to catch it's little cardboard self on fire and burn to ashes. Of course, that last one, even being a screw up, was kinda cool too, in a strange way.

One of my favorite things were always those little ground flowers. You know, the ones that were about the shape of a tube of lipstick and had a bright pink wrapper? Those were cool. There were some that were kinda flat too, that did sort of the same thing, but not as big.

Yeah fireworks are a huge waste of money. I don't think I can think of another way to blow more money faster than you do with fireworks. Hell even with lap dances you get a couple of minutes! =P With fireworks, poof and its gone. The big ones are pretty cool but I'd rather just go to a nearby public park or on main street where there the municipality pays for them lol

Yeah, even though the tanks hardly ever worked, they were still kinda neat. I don't think I've ever seen those lipstick-flower things. I may be familiar with the flat ones, though. Were they like a small disc about the size of a penny and when you light it, it grows and kinda looks like a big turd? I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about, but the ones like that that we always bought were called snakes. They're illegal now for some reason. I'm guessing maybe they stain the sidewalk or kids were putting them on people's cars or something. I don't really know...I just remember liking them because they were one of the things we got to play with before setting off the main fireworks.

And a lap dance is cheaper if you go to the right place! Ha ha. Public fireworks shows are definitely the way to go; it's free and it looks better than anything you can do at home. We don't have a public show around here anymore, but I can't say I'm too bummed about it. They actually charged for the show and people weren't buying enough tickets, so they stopped doing it. No biggie...if my kid wants to see fireworks when he's older, we'll just go visit his grandparents. They get a free public show.

This is the ground flowers I was talking about.

The fuse was toward the end, so when it started throwing sparks, the force of the sparks coming out that offset hole made the whole thing spin in a circle and kinda on end even. Some of 'em would start jumping a little bit too if they got going fast enough. They usually change colors between yellow, green, and pink before they finally fizzle out.

The flat ones weren't as big or as pretty....they just sorta spun the same way and threw sparks. Can't remember the name, but seems like it was "happy" something. Dunno. Definitely not snakes though. The snakes we used to get were little black ball things a little bigger than a pencil eraser (same shape too). They talked about banning them around here too, but I don't know if they ever did. Reasoning was because they had an actual flame that kept burning the whole time instead of just throwing sparks, and mainly because that lightweight foamy ash "snake" would catch the wind really easy and drag the burning pellet where you may not want it, like in a bunch of dry grass or something. Fire hazard, I guess.

Ohhh, okay, we used to get those ground flowers. Those things are pretty awesome. That's what the turtles were like; they just weren't as fast...but they could be stuck onto walls...and they looked like turtles.

And that makes sense about the snakes now that I think about it. It's been years since I used one of those, so I forgot about the continuous flame. This is a very dry area (it is the desert, after all) so I guess one of those could easily take out a few hundred acres of land.
