The Official Food Discussion: Not just bacon anymore
I find this obsession that people (especially geeks) have with bacon to be a bit odd, but out of curiosity, I tried the new bacon sundae at Denny's... And it's freakin' delicious. I've always enjoyed eating bacon with maple syrup, so this took me back to childhood breakfasts, and that crunchy-chewy-meaty texture works really well with the ice cream. If cooking bacon wasn't such a messy ordeal, I would make this at home all the time.
That is all.

I haven't had Bacon in a long time. If I remember correctly 2 or 3 years lol. I rarely eat breakfast usually buy a bagel with a apple juice in the morning. Bacon Sundae just sounds weird to me and I like weird stuff so I'll probably try it sad part is the nearest Denny's is in New Jersey

That sucks about Denny's. They're not the best place to eat, but still. If you ever manage to get down there, definitely try the sundae. It sounds weird, but it's so good. I actually thought it needed more bacon, though. Heh.

Saw a story in our newspaper about that bacon sundae just a few days ago. At the time I thought "Bleh!", but I've heard that alot of times salty and sweet things actually are good together (think chocolate covered bacon, perhaps.....that's actually not bad). Like DeYanKees1 though, we don't have a Denny's around here anymore. Used to have 2 of 'em, then they turned them into Kettle restaurants for awhile and then they both closed for good. One's now refurbished into a mexican restaurant and the other got demolished to use the ground for an RV park.
I'd probably like that sundae though, coz I like bacon and I like ice cream, so what the heck, slap 'em both together and have double the goodness. LOL!

Oh yeah, meats and desserts actually go pretty well together. My main concern with eating this was that I don't really like ice cream, especially lighter ones like vanilla, but all of the syrup muted the flavor somewhat. You should definitely give it a shot if you ever can. I'm willing to eat a lot of strange-sounding things thanks to shows like Chopped and Iron Chef, but this is something I think can be enjoyed even by people who aren't particularly adventurous.

In my opinion "Meats and sweets" do actually go together sometimes, like Sweet and Sour Pork, but check it out!
Three words: BACON PANCAKE MIX. The sound of it is ridiculous, but when I actually tried it..delicious! I'm not sure if it's a nationwide product, but you can usually find it in the baking aisle. It's simply pancake batter with a package of chocolate chips, and a package of bacon bits (I actually used fresh bacon in mine) - mix it all together, fry it up like any other pancake; top it with butter and syrup.. it's a coronary's dream!

I gotcha..!
-No.. I got you!

Nice! I've never seen that around, but at Denny's they currently have bacon pancakes, which are basically what you just described (but without chocolate chips). I think they sound pretty great. I mean, I like to have bacon with my pancakes anyway and I rarely eat bacon without syrup, so bacon pancakes make perfect sense to me! I'll have to pick up some bacon next time we go shopping so I can try making some.
Bacon would also go really well with beignets, I think. If you've never had beignets, you really must give them a try sometime. They're one of the best treats I've ever had and there's so much you can do with them. I order my mix directly from Café Du Monde in New Orleans. My grandma brought it back from there once when I was a child and I've been hooked ever since. Although I prefer to show my support by purchasing directly from the café, they also sell it at World Market.
And while we're on the subject of meat and powdered sugar...the monte cristo is also quite delicious. I prefer my version over any I've ever had at a diner, but it's usually good wherever you go. Easily one of my top-five favorite sandwiches.
Gee, I have no idea how I ever got so fat...

Those Monte Cristos always sounded good, but I've honestly never tried one. My favorite sandwich has fried eggs (I'm an egg freak....love 'em....dunno why). I take 2 or 3 eggs and fry 'em till totally done in a skillet (break the yolks and cook till not runny). While cooking, season them with salt, pepper, and Old Bay garlic and herb seasoning (heavy on the Old Bay). Put these on wheat bread with Miracle Whip, a slice of American cheese, a few slices of that thin deli-style ham, and eat some of those little petite baby dill pickles along with it. Sounds kinda strange, but I love it.
I haven't seen those bacon pancakes Rah5er0 mentioned around here either. Maybe it's an "up north" thing only and doesn't make it to our parts of the country. Only stuff we've got in pancake mix around here is blueberries or chocolate chips.

Aside from the pickles (blech!) and herbs, that sounds just like the egg sandwiches I always have. When it comes to eggs and tuna, Miracle Whip does wonders! If you like grilled cheese and French toast, then you'll love monte cristos. They sound gross and they're probably super unhealthy, but they're so freakin' tasty. Now that I'm finally getting over my fun little stomach parasite, I just might have to make some this weekend. Mmm.

Bacon...sundae??? I'm a big bacon guy but that sounds gross lol. Alas I also have no Dennys in Canada. I'm actually in Costa Rica right now on vaca (wifi on my phone) and I've seen a few here. Maybe I'll pop in and try one if I get the chance.
-
Oh man, you'll definitely have to try it. I know it sounds weird, but it's one of the best ice cream treats I've ever had (and it's only $3). It's just one of those things that works really well despite how it sounds...kinda like peanut butter pizza. It sounds disgusting, but it's one of my favorites.

So today I went into New Jersey had some stuff to do there and my friends and I found a Denny's and they had the sundae. I bought one and to be honest it wasn't half bad. Was pretty good all my friends liked it as well. Told my father about it he looked at me and called me crazy lol

See, told ya it's good! Now we just have to petition Denny's so they'll keep it as a permanent item. Ha ha.

Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it! I thought it sounded pretty gross at first, but it's freakin' delicious. Whenever we go to John's Incredible Pizza (pizza buffet), I fill my plate with several slices of the stuff. It's right up there with the 5-Meat Stuffed Pizza from Papa Murphy's as one of the best pizzas I've ever had.
