Duke Nukem Delayed yet again

I know, big surprise, right? I'm sure nobody's surprised, but I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. Is it a publicity stunt? Do you think we'll ever actually see the game? Was Gearbox the right team to take over the job?

lol it's never coming out...ever. At least it seems that way. Sure hope it does come out this year though I need some more Duke in my life

I think a lot of it depends on who reviews it. People who grew up with Duke Nukem are likely to score it generously because it should easily live up to the old games. Newcomers, however, won't get much out of it. I never expected it to actually be a good game (especially with Gearbox taking over); it's just going to be a big, crude 90's nostalgia trip with less depth than a wading pool. Personally, I'm still excited, but I know to not have high expectations.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole game is a lie and never existed.

I dunno how I missed the last post. Just out of curiosity, what do you have against Gearbox Chris? The Half Life expansions were fun, Brothers in Arms was ok and Borderlands was pretty good. They haven't blown me away with anything yet but I haven't played anything from them that downright sucked.

But yeah I agree. It looks to me pure fanservice for those who played the game originally. I mean Duke's macho-man personna is so outdated at this point and the sexual references are so crude and politically incorrect that not many companies have the balls to do that nowadays. Pure 90's awesomeness. And even the shooting itself seems very 90's era shooting gallery style rather than today's duck and hide, strategically pop out and shoot kind of AI. Nevertheless I'm still really excited but I'm not expecting much more than that Wolfenstein reboot. Definitely going in with low expectations. And with all the attention and buzz this game has generated in the past ten years, I don't even think its possible for it to live up to the hype. Even if it's a solid 8 or 8.5, people are gonna tear this game a new one because it wasn't worth the ten year wait I can already tell.

It's not so much that I have anything against Gearbox; I just don't trust their ability to make a good game. I haven't played their HL expansions, so I can't really comment on that, but I don't like their Brothers In Arms games and Borderlands is one of the most boring games I've played. It was damn funny at times and I wanted to like it, but it was just a huge freakin' grindfest. I got tired of fighting the same enemies over and over and over. Obviously it's better to play with friends, but I don't see why that should mean that the singleplayer has to suffer.

And it's so true that Duke Nukem is going to be graded so harshly just because of how long it has taken. Everyone basically thinks that if it took this long, it should be the most amazing game ever. Alan Wake had the same trouble and it didn't take half as long. I'm still hoping for something fun, though. It won't have a good story and it won't be innovative, but as long as it has the same charm as the old games, I'll be happy.
