Mortal Kombat demo
What do you guys think of the new MK so far? I wasn't a huge fan as a kid, but compared to what I played back then, I'm a bit disappointed. First of all, I thought this would look much better, but it looks like an HD upgrade of a 90's game. It looks good at times, but it's often pixelated. It's also ridiculously easy unless you put it on the hardest settings. That's more of an observation that a complaint, though. The in thing now is to make games playable for everyone, so you can't really fault it for having different difficulty levels.
Anyway, what about the rest of you? Have you even played the demo yet?

Not yet! Planning on downloading today. Yeah the graphics have disappointed me in videos but I was hoping the gameplay would still be fun. MK1-3 were my fighting games of choice back then.
EDIT: Wait...PS3 exclusive? Bahh...Maybe I won't be playing the demo afterall

Its ok, still looking forward to it. Not digging the whole x-ray moves but its something that I'll have to get use to. I ran through easy in like 3 mins medium in like 4 and the hardest took me 8 mins. It is easier then past iterations but still a little challenging. Wont get it on release day since another important thing comes out that week that will take up all my time that month a certain beta so no point in dropping $60 on it when I can wait for a price drop. Should be a good addition to any fighting game fans library or MK fan.

Yeah, sorry, it's an exclusive. If it helps, you're not missing a whole lot. There are three or four playable characters and you fight against each of them. Very, very short demo.

Oh yeah, I really don't like that x-ray crap either! That would be fine as a finishing move, but it's so annoying in the middle of a fight. That was one of the things I didn't like about Split/Second...it was a great game, but I got so annoyed by all of the slow-motion crashes in the middle of each race.

How exactly does that xray thing work? Like a super combo in SF?
-
Yea, you fill the meter in the bottom ala MvC or SF then you press L2 and R2 if I recall and you do a special move. Something that the MK franchise never needed and feels out of place.

rented it at my local vid store, and its damned fun actually. Nothing amazing or as intricate as MvC1,2, or 3, but its fun. Reminds me of when I was a kid and Mortal Kombat was the bees knees. The fatalities are pretty sweet and the story mode ain't too bad either. There is an actual story this time, and not just a bunch of "what if" endings depending on which character you choose.

lol I forgot about this thread. Yeah I've been playing some MK. I really don't like the dial-a-combos that are in it. I much prefer the hit confirm style in Capcom games. Leads to more reactionary play imo. And I'm still not a fan that there's not much variety in between characters in terms of normals and health. IE. jump punch is the same for everybody, sweep is the same for everybody. I mean, I understand that's always how MK has been (I used to be an MK player back in the MK1-3 days over SF but I was too young to really take it seriously) but I just don't feel there's as much depth as something like SF or MvC where everybody has different air moves, different amounts of health, differing walk speeds, etc. *shrug* Oh and the netcode and matchmaking effing sucks....like really bad. I like that they're patching out infinites (thank god for no more Kabal run cancel block string) but they really need to fix the netcode.

I almost bought this for $30 because it seemed like a great deal, but I'm glad I waited. I want to get it eventually, but I'm hoping I'll find it for $5-$10 in the near future. For what it's worth, at least the combat doesn't sound as bad as Dead Or Alive: Dimensions. I was really enjoying the singleplayer, but online multiplayer is a freakin' bloodbath. I couldn't figure why I wasn't able to win...an then I realized that the move list on the bottom screen (which I found quite handy) was tappable. So, all someone has to do is keep tapping the screen and their character will execute the combos. This is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever seen for a fighting game. There might as well just be a big KO button!

What do you mean by tapping on the bottom screen to do combos? Are you talking about a DS version?
-
Sorry, I guess I should've mentioned that. Heh. Yeah, it's one of the newer 3DS games. On the bottom screen, it shows a list of combos that you can do at any given time, which is really handy. But what I didn't realize at first is that all you have to do is tap on one and the character will do it. If you time it right, you can just keep tapping on the combos and take out your opponent without ever giving them a chance to fight back. Leaving this in for multiplayer was a very, very stupid idea.
