So I finally finished the campaign last night after being sidetracked for a while. The campaign definitely is pretty good but I must warn you that the first few hours aren't that great. At first you're fighting humans in a typical urban setting so it's fun but nothing we haven't seen before and definitely nothing special. But after a few hours, the Ceph invasion sets in proper, New York starts getting pummelled, your suit is upgraded and things really start getting interesting so don't be discouraged if you're not that into it at first. The second half of the game is pretty damn good.
Also I thought the stealth mechanics sucked balls at first so I relied on my armor ability for the first half of the game but once I got a grip of how the stealth works, I ended up loving it. Word of advice: using cloak is absolutely pointless without a silencer. Makes sense but even when you're really far away from enemies (a gunshot would be heard in RL but usually not at that distance in most games), as soon as you shoot or stealth kill someone, you become uncloaked and enemies almost immediately know where you are and can lock you down pretty good if you're heavily outnumbered. Silencers allow you to pop off a few shots before going uncloaked allowing you to duck back behind something before they pinpoint where you are exactly. If you're not careful with your cloaking, you become a giant bullet magnet and can leave you in some tough situations.
As for the MP, I'm still not totally convinced. It's fun but I can't help but feel it could have been more. Other than adding the stealth and armor abilities, it's really nothing unique. The host advantage is pretty damn noticeable though I must say and bullet lag/latency seems to be a minor issue at times. One thing I did notice is that there's very little camping going on. The maps are designed in a way where every spot that has a good vantage point also leaves you fairly open and you can usually be spotted from halfway across the map. I did find a few sneaky spots but these are rare compared to games like COD and because alot of people have the bullet tracer perk on, you get found pretty quick if you camp out. This is even more surprising because everyone has cloak right off the bat so you'd think there'd be alot of people abusing it hiding in corners and such but that's not really the case for the most part. In my experience, if an enemy is cloaked (you're still barely visible as a blur and your shadow is visible) and you turn on armor as soon as you notice them, armor will almost always win even if they're more accurate and shot first. You just have to be vigilant because if you don't spot them and walk past them, your armor won't protect you fast enough to turn around and line up before you get a few bullets in your back. I use cloak purely to travel in open areas and always have my finger on the armor button lol.
All in all, I would give it a solid 8. Great game but other than the graphics (which are great btw), it's tough to stand out from the competition. Wayy too many FPS coming out nowadays that don't do much different.

Yeah, I've been saying this for a few years. Crysis 2 definitely sounds more interesting after reading your mini-review, though. Thankfully, I don't play FPS games very often (I own less than 10), so it probably won't feel quite as stale to me. When I've gone through a few games on my list and this has gone down in price, I think I'll probably pick it up.
