Default Bulletstorm and Crysis 2 demos

I'm sure you guys must've tried these out by now, right? Right? What do you all think? I had a blast with Bulletstorm. This is perfect for people like me who don't usually care much for FPS games. It's so much easier than it looks in the videos. I know that's probably a turn off for a lot of people, but I for one really enjoy that I finally get to feel like a bad*ss in one of these games. BioShock is probably the only other FPS that does that for me. And the variety of attacks is great. I think it might end up becoming repetitive, but it's a fun game that should have a decent amount of replay value. I had already pre-ordered because of the Gears 3 beta, but even if that wasn't included, I would still pre-order it now.

Now, Crysis 2...well, there's not much to say. Based on the demo alone, it's very generic and boring. And I just LOATHE online multiplayer demos for FPS and TPS games. It tells me absolutely nothing about what actually playing the game will be like. People don't seem to realize that most of these games are exactly the same in multiplayer. And honestly, I don't have fun playing against a room full of people who can kill me in one shot within a split-second of seeing me while I'm still reaching for the trigger. My excitement has waned significantly. Online multiplayer may work fine for most genres, but in this case, it's always a bad move to release a demo with no singleplayer. I'm still interested in the game for its campaign, but they haven't shown me anything noteworthy or unique so far.

Have to agree with you on Crysis 2's demo I did not enjoy it at all....it is just not fun and I like the FPS genre but it is very generic. Bulletstorm is alright but still I guess I am just burnt out on shooters all I want is MvC3 right now...come on Capcom!!

Personally, I think that Bulletstorm is the epitomy of how gaming hasn't changed since the nineties. All that game looks to be is about points, which makes me feel like I'm in some time warp back playing side scrollers racking up high scores. It doesn't help that COD and other multiplayer games have flashy letters and one liners complimenting the score that you got, either.

As for multiplayer, I guess it's a competitive thing. Definitely true that most shooters don't really differ from one another at all. Only really innovative shooter I can think of is Counter-Strike, off the top of my head at least. And that game's ancient, yet people still play AND mod the **** outta it.

Understandable. I'm fairly picky when it comes to shooters, so I don't really have the chance to get burnt out on them. Most of them look the same to me, so I only bother with the ones that seem like they have something unique to offer. That's why I haven't bothered with any of these war games in the last couple of years.

I never really saw the appeal of Counter-Strike. Tons of people love it and that's great, but it's just another generic shooter to me. I just searched around online for reasons why people think Counter-Strike is so great and the top three were "The guns", "It's addictive", and "The number of people online". So, what I gather from that is that people like it because people play it. I'm sure it has plenty of redeeming qualities, but it doesn't seem to have anything special; I wouldn't get anything out of playing it that I can't get from playing Battlefield 2142.

And I will agree that shooters haven't changed much since the 90's (although many more are finally adopting elements from other genres), but if you think gaming in general hasn't changed over the years, then I have to assume you haven't been following the indie scene very closely. So many games are all about telling compelling stories and trying to immerse you in the world. I mean, there was nothing like Indigo Prophecy or Heavy Rain back then. Art games were almost nonexistent and it was rare to be given choices that actually mattered. Many types of games have stayed largely the same, but I think in some places, we've made huge changes over the last several years. Of course, it can be hard to see that when we're getting a hundred new games each month.

As for Bulletstorm...yes, it is about gaining points for doing things, but if you're going to be doing these things anyway, I don't see the harm. Besides, it's mostly about fun. It's campy and entertaining despite itself. It is fair to say that it epitomizes 90's gaming because it oozes "xxxtreme" out of every pore, but I'm fairly certain it's on purpose. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like they're making fun of themselves because of how macho and hardcore Gears of War tried to be. I dunno, all that matters to me is that the game is fun. It's not innovative, but I feel like I'm playing as Scorpion with a gun, which is pretty great.

I'm sure the game itself is fine; I just hate when all we get is a multiplayer demo. I'm not the type of person who thinks it's fun to shoot at a bunch of random people simply for the sake of doing so. I think it can be a fun distraction with some friends, but I prefer having at least a semi-structured setting with a storyline, or at least a goal with more substance that "Kill everyone else". If you like playing FPS games online, you will automatically enjoy the demo twice as much as I did.

Definitely true that there are indies out there that make gaming an art. Ice Pick Lodge and Frictional are my top favorite developers. Can't wait till Cargo! comes out, maybe that will revive my hope for the gaming industry.

Crysis 2 is a watered down version of CoD/Halo it felt so clunky. Was is just me or did it feel like the devs ran out of buttons to map on the controller that they put stuff on the Dpad which again felt stupid. Much rather play it on the PC it might be fun then.

Bulletstorm was very fun, I enjoyed it only played through it once but it was fun and entertaining. Really pumped for the full game now.

It's a game made by Ice Pick Lodge, a developer that really opened my eyes to how we barely scratched the surface of what gaming can achieve in how it tells a story.

Here's a link to the forum, all the information about it is on the first post.

It was indeed clunky. I'm still hopeful that at least the singleplayer will be good, though. We'll see...

Thanks for the link! Not sure what to expect yet, but I will keep my eyes out for this one. That main character (Phlox) reminds me a lot of the one from Mole Control.

I'm surprised that they are doing a game like that. The Void and Pathologic were so gloomy that I was having symptoms of depression, however these feelings only helped to reinforce the ecstasy of beating the game.

On topic, after playing the Bulletstorm demo, I actually had a few devious laughs here and there, when I got a misfire into shocker at the start, and a sadist + vertigo when I shot a guy with the bolas and kicked him off the platform. It was the green guy that jumps you a little before the ending.

Did anybody end up getting Crysis 2? I picked it up yesterday and it's pretty fun. I didn't play the demo but it doesn't feel clunky at all (if you're talking about the PS3 one, it was confirmed as not the real game and was taken down from PSN after only a couple of days IIRC). One thing I did notice though is how hard the MP is trying to be COD. Perks that silence your footsteps? Killstreaks at 3, 5 and 7 with the 3 killstreak being it reveals everyone on the radar?...Unless they have the perk that prevents you from showing up? Sound familiar? lol Even the controls are really similar with the default melee being clicking the right stick and crouch on B. The suit abilities are the only things that differentiates itself imo. Still though, good game. I still need to get further into the campaign though before I have a final verdict.

Let us know about the campaign. The MP demo was not fun for me. I just did not find it unique enough to invest in and unless I hear that the single player is exceptional, I doubt I'll even rent it.

I'd like to know too. They fixed most of the issues that I originally had with the multiplayer, but that doesn't help much because I don't actually care about playing multiplayer. I'm only interested if the campaign is decent.
