    Exclamation Hello

    Hello,
I am Gabriel L. and I am going to be freelancing for G3.com. I am currently on a trial period and hope to become a full fledged staff writer soon. I am a "hardcore" gamer (I personally hate the segregation of gamers) . Some of my favorite games are "Silent Hill 2" "Bioshock" "Final Fantasy IV" "Half-Life 1 & 2" "Portal" "" Pac Man Championship Edition and the recently released Dx version and Chrono Trigger. I have a mixed taste of games and I hope to provide a fair and equal view on all games I review and/or write about.
    Thanks,
    Gabe

Welcome, Gabe; it's nice to meet ya. I hate the segregation of gamers too. Nowadays, if you play Mario games, you're considered a casual gamer, but when I was a kid, that's what everyone played. And there wasn't a person out there who would dare question how hardcore we were. Heh. The separation needs to be based on "commitment". To me, the difference between a hardcore and casual gamer is whether you game as a main hobby or merely as a passtime. I feel like I'm the most hardcore gamer I know because aside from keeping up on all of the news and whatnot, I play just about everything I can get my hands on, whether it's a fast-paced violent shooter or a cutesy cartoony platformer. It's all fun!

"Hardcore" is supposed to be an attitude, not a genre.

Well said, To me the word Hardcore definitely is a gaming lifestyle. As far as I'm concerned, if somebody played Mario 64 all day- everyday, then to me, that's a hardcore gamer.

    Welcome home Gabe-

    I gotcha..!
    -No.. I got you!

Thanks for the warm welcome I am looking forward to working with you all. Hardcore actually started back in the old Everquest days depending on how much you played. Even then it was not some sort of label it was just a figure of speech like "Wow your level 50 that is hardcore!" but now it seems gem publishers are actually calling hardcore a genre! This core vs casual is preventing new blood from enetering the gaming space. Some 11 year old kid is scared of playing Bejeweled because his friends are hardcore COD players and will call him a wuss. Wow I have got a good idea for an article now thanks guys!
