Microsoft and PS3 motion control?
Anyone else think both of these are going to flop? To mean motion control is for casual gaming and both Xbox and PS have always been hardcore gamer consoles. I feel like casual gamers aren't going to buy those system because of the hardcore stigma they have and hardcore games that have the systems arent going to get the motion control because they've been ripping on the Wii for the last 3 years.
I feel theres a very small percentage of users that like both.

I never saw motion control as something for casual gamers. It's just that most developers don't take full advantage of the controls and we end up with a bunch of junk that nobody cares about. And in their attempt to monopolize the industry, Microsoft is focusing a lot on casual games. But it is a technology that actually has a lot of potential for some really great things. However, Kinect and Move aren't quite as accessible as the Wii because you pay the same price for just a peripheral rather than a full console and as such, they are less appealing. There is also the fact that longtime gamers prefer having a traditional controller, so motion controls are seen as a secondary means of playing. I don't think either new peripheral will flop, but I don't think they will see the expected success. But I must say that if a new Seaman is announced for Kinect, I will go out and buy one.
As for people who rip on the Wii...that's just how gamers are. So many are rude and just want to pick fights with each other. But if they ever sat down with some of the better Wii games, they would probably have a blast. Next to the 360, I think it's one of the best consoles in years. Xbox fanboys have become more accepting, I think, because XBLA seems to have softened them up a bit. PS3 fanboys are still pretty relentless, however. Of course, ask them how they feel about the Move and they'll say that it's the most innovative technology ever made. And they've got this stupid Kevin Butler character filling them full of nonsense about how it's so much better than Wii. Wow, congrats, you took a 5-year-old technology and made it work slightly better. And it only needs three different expensive peripherals!
Anyway, we'll just have to see what kinds of games come out. Aside from the sorcery game, everything coming out for Move looks very ho-hum. Most games for Kinect actually look like a lot of fun, but I think people will be put off by the amount of activity required. I'm keeping a close eye on both.

eh motion control seems fun, but also like a fad to me. The controller is king in my book and I'll have a hard time moving away from it. The Wii did it pretty well with a bit of both motion controls and normal controller. But the whole kinetic and move thing is just getting too gimmicky. Its almost like what 3-D is to movies right now. Sure there are a few good ones, but the majority of them will be cheap cash ins.

I think motion controls have their place in the gaming industry, but their approach feels just like that!

I just dont see the same fan support for these kinda games with the established installbase that the PS3 and 360 have. As you said, Mike, I see PS3 and 360 owners as more of core gamers compared to casual, which 90% of motion games seem to target. With the Move, I can't see much happening from that at all as it's basically just a Wiimote with Motion Plus controller except way more expensive since you need to have a PS3 too. The Kinect I can see a little potential for because of things like voice and facial recognition and it's just more unique in that there's no controller at all. But the software demoed for it so far has not impressed me in the slightest. Everything just seems like a "look I can do it too!" move targeted at the Wii. Until I see some core games that consistently utilize these techs well, I have to predict a flop. The Wii has the motion control market on lock.

It'll be interesting to see if Sony and MS continue with motion control with the next generation of consoles. I won't be surprised if at least one of them dropped it.
