Gears of War: The Next Generation
I'm a bit curious to know how Gears fans feel about having a new central character voiced by one of the Degrassi kids. I am personally okay with just because I'm lame and used to watch Degrassi, and I think Aubrey is a pretty decent actor, but it seems like something that wouldn't sit well with a lot of the hardcore fans. Any input here?

Well I'm no hardcore gears fan but i don't mind established actors taking on voice over roles as long as i don't recognize the voice. I wouldn't either since i never watched degrassi so it'd be a new voice to me. Besides, I disassociate myself with voice actors pretty easily. I only found out yesterday that John travolta played Bolt in that animated movie lol

I'm usually the same way (unless it's someone I happen to dislike for whatever reason), but I know a lot of people take issue with this sort of thing sometimes. When people found out that Lance Bass was the voice of Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts, they threw a fit. Aubrey Graham isn't quite as well-known, but he's apparently doing well with his new-ish hip-hop career, so it's only a matter of time before he starts getting some haters. Heh.

holy crap I never knew that one. I watched some of degrassi, but not enough to where I know the actors by their real name...or fake name. I'll look her up tho. Maybe she'll do a good job. Hell, if Mark Hamill can go from Luke "nice guy" Skywalker to the creepiest sounding Joker in the Batman cartoon and video game, why can't this girl do a good job?
also, Lance Bass is lame.

I absolutely hate it, I made amense with Ice-T he actually plays the game and knows its background, while Fake over here aka drake doesn't know anything beside the fact that its a third person shooter that he played a couple times at his friends house. But hey there's nothing I can do and I have to live with it, it just sucks that I'm going to have to hear his voice during online play. Campaign I dont mind but there's gonna be thousands upon thousands of nuthuggers that are gonna play as Jace just because Drake is the voice.
Oh and if you guys cant tell Im not a fan of his music soo that's where most of the hate is coming from lol But its nice to see that Epic is expanding there cast it might give more light to the game beyond the hardcore even thou it wont need it as Microsoft is gonna promote the hell out of it lol.

Oh is this Drake you're talking about? Didn't know his real name. Yeah as a hip hop fan, I hate that guy and unfortunately I probably would recognize his voice. In that case, that could be annoying...

Ha ha, Aubrey's a guy. He played Jimmy, the kid in the wheelchair.

Interesting, I expected more hate because of his acting career, not his music. To me, he's just like Drake Bell, Nick Cannon, and these other Nickelodeon musicians that aren't really meant to be taken seriously. I know he's not much younger than me, but I still think of him as a kid.
I actually just listened to a couple of his songs for the first time and I'm really surprised. Sounds nothing like him at all. His voice sounds way younger and more high-pitched in these songs. He should've stuck to acting. Heh. I can definitely see why you don't like his music, but he actually is a pretty decent actor. He's not at all right for Jace, though...he should be played by someone like Michael Jai White.
As for Ice-T...I actually really dislike his acting, so I'm a bit disappointed that he will be in Gears 3. I hope it will be a small role (as far as dialog goes) because I can't stand his voice. Doesn't really matter to me if either of them have played the game...I found that comment kinda funny because it reminded me of an experience from my childhood. I used to watch the original Power Rangers as a kid because it was still cool back then. A friend of mine was totally obsessed and he threw a huge fit when he read in a TV Guide interview that the guy who played Billy (the Blue Ranger) didn't actually like the show. For the rest of the series, he booed and hissed anytime Billy was on-screen and he destroyed all of his Blue Ranger stuff (cards, toys, etc.). I've never been able to get over that moment because in my mind, it always made perfect sense for the guy to not like the show.

After listening to a few of his songs...is he really considered hip-hop? Sounds more like pop to me. I don't really like rap or hip-hop or whatever most of this music on TV is, so I might not know how to label things properly. To me, hip-hop should be more like Dr. Octagon and Toothpick or maybe even Optimus Rhyme.

ha score for knowing about Dr. Octagon! Kool Keith is the weirdest character in hip hop ever lol.
Yeah Drake is very much straddling the line between pop and hip hop. Personally, I consider him more pop, especially his more mainstream releases, but in the broader, more modern definition, many would consider him hip hop (and for that reason alone, I feel almost embarrassed telling people my main genre of music is hip hop because I feel I have to go on this long shpeel after explaining that Drake is NOT the type of hip hop Im talking about). And yeah, his voice has changed drastically in the past couple of years, probably because of his close association with Lil Wayne. I see his voice and style bleeding through Drake more and more. And his fake southern accent really grates on me knowing he's from my home town but raps like he's from Louisiana or something..
-
He has a lot of hype around him like how his album sold 450,000 in the first week lol. It sounds borderline pop only listened through it once never liked it. After reading the comics and books Jace is a mellow guy so at least we dont have to hear him scream alot. The really good side is that we can hear him die!!!! lol yea about that.

Ha ha. Well, we'll see how it all works out when the game actually releases. I personally have nothing against the guy just because I know him mainly as an actor. What's funny to me is that the little bit of rapping/hip-hopping/whatever he did on Degrassi (one or two episodes) was a lot better than the music he has actually produced.
I was completely unaware of the fake southern accent. Does he think people don't know he's Canadian? He doesn't have a very noticeable Canadian accent, but he sure as hell doesn't sound like he's from the south. He could maybe pass as a Californian to people who don't actually live here.

Definitely more my style. Heh. I prefer folksy music, dance punk, and stuff like The Decemberists and Modest Mouse...when I do delve into hip-hop, I focus mainly on the nerdy stuff such as the aforementioned Kool Keith/Octagon/Dooom, Toothpick (one of my favorites), and Optimus Rhyme (Transformers rap). I also like Blackalicious and some of Ugly Duckling and Del The Funky Homosapien. And I know people don't usually take them seriously, but I just love MC Chris, MC Frontalot, MC Paul Barman, and other guys like them.
For me, the best rap and hip-hop is smart, funny, and kinda dorky. And it of course has to sound good, which is a case-by-case sort of thing...that's why Kanye's not on my list; I can't stand that guy or his music.

What exactly is a Canadian accent? lol Other than the East coast maritime provinces and Quebec (obviously), everyone else kinda just has a neutral American accent imo. Just by talking, there's no way I could tell the difference between someone from Vancouver or Toronto and someone from maybe Chicago or upstate NY (ie not from Brooklyn or something). I've been to tons of places in the states too and I really can't tell much of a difference except for those places with real distinct accents like in the south or Boston or NYC. Maybe my ears just dont pick up accents easily. But anyway, you can't hear Drake accenting those "ow" and "aw" sounding words like Wayne does in his songs? When he talks, it's not nearly as noticeable but when he raps, it's like he thinks he's Wayne, who already raps like a retard. Really irks me.
Yeah I love the Decemberists! Went to their show a couple of years ago when The Crane Wife released and had a blast! The crowd was some of the weirdest mix of people I've seen at a show but thats kinda expected from those guys lol And yeah Del is friggin awesome. That whole Heiroglyphics crew is pretty similar to him too, if you dont know of them already. Strange that he's Ice Cube's cousin but they make completely opposite styles of hip hop. And Blackalicious? Damn man I never knew you were into all these groups. Really didn't picture you diggin these guys. Are you into The Roots at all? They just released an amazing album this week. I always try to push these guys onto my non-hip hop friends because since they're an actual band that uses real instruments, they're a bit easier for non-hip hop ears to digest but at the same time, still represent the spirit of hip hop to the fullest.

Yea here in NYC there is like 4 different accents lol that I know of, the Brooklyn one that has that Italian mob feel to it, the Bronx one where half the words have a faint Spanish to them. The Lower downtown area of Manhattan with all those white boys and there retarded whats up after ever damn sentence. Then where I live and more uptown where its main curse words and very loud and I mean very loud exaggeration to almost every word that ends the sentence. Like if I was to say Hey guys how have you been doing, the word doing in that sentence will come out louder for some reason lol dont know why but I have meet many people like that. Dont know about the other boroughs dont really go over there to queens etc. There all hard to explain except the BK one that you hear in alot of movies, you have to hear them to really understand.
Ahh the different sights and sounds of this crazy city.
Also yea Lil wayne is a retard!!! Someone agrees I HATE THAT GUY!!!! STAY IN JAIL PLEASE1!!!!@!@!@!#!$@!#$@#%#!$^!@#$^!!!!$#@%!#$^%! $^%!!!!!!%!$^%!!!! I dont even know if he's still there lmao.

lol little too much haterade over there? I can't stand the little gremlin or his music either but isn't saying he should stay in jail a little harsh? lmao
-
Don't get me started on Lil Wayne. That little midget pisses me off, and when everyone by me started listening to him I gave up on listening to rap/hip hop in general.
Anyway, on the point of accents, what exactly is a Chicago accent? I can usually recognize canadians, people from the south, brooklyn, boston, etc., but everyone says that they know I'm from Chicago because of the accent. What the hell do I do that makes me sound different? Some people say we use long A sounds, as in if we were to say Chicago it'd be like "Chic-ahhhhhhh-go."

lol that last sentence just made me picture Jim Carey saying it in Ace Ventura 2 when he's messing with the tribesmen. Shikaka!
I dunno, again, I hear Chicago as kinda just a neutral accent. I dont really hear anything distinct that sets it apart from other accents. And you can recognize Canadians? Do tell. Like I said before, with the exception of the Maritimers and the French-Canadians, what's the difference? I really dont hear it. It's not like we're the stereotypical Canadians who end every sentence with "eh". Even on XBL, I'd say 80% of people just sound neutrally American, whether they're from western Canada, east-central Canada (ie Toronto), Chicago, Buffalo, or wherever. We even have a ton of American immigrants here in Toronto and I can't tell the difference at all unless they come from a place with a really distinct accent.
