    Default The best PS2 games?

Ok, I owned a PSOne and a PS2, but I never really got into gaming until this generation and have recently decided to revisit some of the gems that I've missed over the years. I dug up my old PS2, and have about $200 in store credit at gamestop, so I'm prepared to go on a shopping spree. Here's the list I've compiled so far:

    Resident Evil 4
    Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3 (by the way, there's two different versions of MGS 2&3, which should I get)
    Okami
    Psychonauts
    Kingdom Hearts
And I'm taking recommendations for the best Final Fantasy games on PS2. Consider the fact that I've only ever played FFXIII.

That's my list so far, and it comes to around $30. Surprising how cheap those classics get to be. Anyway, please list your favorite PS2 titles that you think I should play. I have all the GTA games from III on, so don't list those.

$30 is surprisingly cheap. I would've expected Okami alone to go more for that; I could've sword it was a hot item. Perhaps it's just the Wii version. Psychonauts is definitely a good choice. In fact, I need to pick that up for myself because I never got a chance to play the whole thing.

Anyway, here's a quick list of some of my must-haves for the PS2...
Dragon Quest VIII (best JRPG in the last 5 years)
    Final Fantasy X
    Grandia Xtreme
    Ico
    Klonoa 2: Lunatae's Veil
Monster Rancher 3 (although I actually think MR2 for the PS1 is a lot better; these games are very time-consuming)
    Okage: Shadow King
    Ratchet & Clank
    Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (there are a couple others, but these three are the best)
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Stretch Panic

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but these are some pretty good ones. Not sure if you might already have any of them or not. As for Final Fantasy...FFX is the only good one on the PS2 in my opinion. There are surely some who would disagree with me, but I think FFX is the only one you absolutely have to play. To this day, it is the only FF game I have played more than once.

Hmmm, I'd say Shadow of the colossus is a must and if you enjoy that try the very rare and interesting game Ico (also from the same makers)
Silent Hill 3 (scare your pants off)
Kingdom hearts 1 &2 (I never played 2 tho, but heard it was good. part 1 was enjoyable)
Psychonauts is a MUST. its so clever and funny and a great platformer.

I know this thread is a couple months old, but if you're still looking for good PS2 games, I can add a few. Not sure what genre you like, but God of War 1 and 2 are both great games.

Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary were a couple of my faves.

If you like driving games, Gran Turismo 4 and ATV Offroad Fury 4 are cool. You listed Resident Evil 4 already....that's a great one. I got The Essentials 3 pack in that and had trouble with the other two older games in there (Outbreak and Code Veronica:X) but 4 was great.

Geez, what's left? Fighters? About the only ones I got in that type are the Mortal Kombat series (Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon.....all good fighters).

Whatever you do though, don't get Tomb Raider:Angel of Darkness. It sucked.....badly.

I might have to see if I can find that Psychonauts around here, since you guys think it's that good.

Psychonauts is definitely a must. Great little game with a lot of charm and sense of humor. I'm not sure if it would be up your alley or not, but it is at least worth a shot.

Resident Evil 4 is better on the Gamecube, I played both versions to death and the GC one was superior so if you still have a GC or Wii dont get the PS2 version.

As for PS2 games the only ones I kept was Kingdom Hearts 1&2&RE:CoM, Tales of Legendia, ICO and God Of War 1&2.

But other great ones that I spent countless hours on are Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Final Fantasy XII (I found to be better then X), Dark Cloud 1&2, Xenosaga Episode 1&2( Never got around to playing Epi 3), Dragon Quest VIII, Dot Hack Series, ANY Shin Megami Tensei, Drakengard, Magna Carta: Tears of Blood.

Non RPGs: Devil May Cry 1&2&3, Red Dead Revolver, Twisted Metal Black, Manhunt, Beyond Good and Evil, Siren, Bouncer, Yakuza, Rygar, Fatal Frame 2, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (I liked it beyond popular demand).

Yup I used my PS2 mainly for RPGs so I named 85% RPGs lol

As for the MGS thing, MGS3:Subsistence and MGS2:Substance are essentially Ultimate versions with extra stuff etc. So get those if you can.

If you liked Drakengard, you need to check out Nier (available for PS3 and Xbox 360). It is basically a sequel to one possible ending of Drakengard. Despite what most reviews say, it is a really enjoyable game. Reviewers simply didn't give it the chance it deserved and many faulted the game for their inability to play it right. One site (Joystiq or Kotaku, I believe) gave it a 0 because the review was too stupid to follow the mini-map during a fishing quest. He thought the game was glitched and too hard, but he was in the wrong freakin' area. I've read at least three or four reviews that gave Nier a bad score for the same reason. Doesn't make any sense. Personally, I think I gave it a much more accurate review.

I loved Drakengard, Still have my strategy Guide and Game case Because for some reason my disc went missing. Never really checked up on Neir and didnt read many reviews for it. Most stores still have it for $59.99 so Ill wait for a price drop to pick it up. But a 0 thats just wrong and for not knowing what he was doing is just sad lol.

Amazon has it for $49.98 on the Xbox 360. Or as cheap as $26 if you don't mind having a used copy.

Am just playing Okami on the Wii right now for the first time and the game is just wonderful. Well worth the praise it got when it released. From what i read the PS2 version is exactly the same except with more responsive brush controls (which is kinda odd since you use the wiimote on the Wii) so if you're interested in the PS2 version I highly recommend it.

Armored Core 3 is my favorite even though the graphics are bad. A little of topic..>> For PS3 Armored Core 4 is awesome.

I also like Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal (the first time I played it Dr. Nefarious was pretty hard just using the bouncer and disk blade, but became easier when I did challenge mode), Psychonauts, GOW1 and 2, FFX (Final Fantasy), etc.
