I'm working on Nightmare mode right now, actually. Just finished up the story a couple of hours ago, so now I'm trying to get whatever achievements I missed. I agree that it's definitely a lot more intense and you pretty much have to run like hell half of the time. It's almost more fun this way, but I know it's going to suck during the big battles that you can't avoid. Pretty soon, I think I'll take a break so I can get through the DLC.

Hot damn, I just got 100% a couple of hours ago. Once you already know what to do and you're not going after collectibles anymore, you can breeze through the game very quickly. Ended up having to play some of the DLC more than once too, but it was fun.
Most of the achievements are pretty easy, but they'd be a heck of a lot easier if you could load various checkpoints throughout each episode.

Yeah for sure. Got 100% too minus the second dlc. Traded the game in before it released (got a great trade in deal for it otherwise I would have kept it)

I didn't get the ending. Can someone explain to me what the last phrase that Alan said meant? It was something like *SPOILER* "The lake was actually an ocean" or something like that.

Something of real value is always expensive - you have to give away a great deal. And to give a lot, you must first take a lot.

It was left intentionally open ended and open to different interpretations. I took that ocean line simply as the dark presence's reach stretches further than just the lake. But there are many possible explanations. I suggest checking out the Remedy forums and there's a thread devoted to people's interpretations of the story/ ending...at least there was many months ago. If it's not pinned you may not be able to find it anymore.

*EXPECT A FEW SPOILERS*
I too think "It's not a lake, it's an ocean" is probably referring to the breadth of the Darkness. After all, we already know that its powers go far beyond the confines of Bright Falls and Lake Cauldron because Thomas Zane was basically able to create Alan, or at least influence his life to an extent. It seems to be confined to the lake itself, but it is able to have an affect, no matter how indirect, on the outside world.
I also like this theory:

I'm still stuck what the real world is and who the real people are...and most importantly, who is really writing the story. We know Alan is writing a story, but he's also part of a bigger story that could very well still be a work in progress. Is Zane still writing? Maybe it's all part of Clay Steward's dream? I don't freakin' know; I didn't really even think about it until afterwards, so I'm sure I've forgotten certain things. Still, the whole thing is like the ending to eXistenZ.
Perhaps I'll contribute more when I'm actually awake...
